Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts signs two new hotels in Vietnam and Philippines.

New additions bring number of hotels under development in Asia up to 18 as company’s regional expansion continues.

Dubai UAE, 27 June 2012: Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is stepping up its ambitious global expansion with a continued focus on Asia and the announcement that it is to manage two new hotels in Vietnam and the Philippines.

The new properties are the strikingly contemporary new Mövenpick Resort & Spa, Quy Nhon, in Vietnam and the soaring tower of Mövenpick Hotel Makati, Makati City, part of Metro Manila in the Philippines.

"We already operate seven hotels in Asia including two in Thailand, two in Vietnam and one each in the Philippines, India and Singapore, but the new properties will bring the number of hotels we have under development in Asia up to 18," said Andreas Mattmüller, chief operating officer for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Middle East and Asia. "Our vision is to operate 25 hotels in the region by 2015."

The move is in line with the upcale Swiss hospitality company’s strategy to create a balanced portfolio of approximately 25 hotels in each of the regions where it operates – Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

The new properties are impressive additions to the worldwide portfolio of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts which currently operates 72 hotels and has a further 30 projects under development – from Paris to Palawan.

The Mövenpick Resort & Spa, Quy Nhon is the company’s third hotel in Vietnam following openings in Saigon and Hanoi. The new resort will be built to the highest environmentally sustainable standards on an isolated cliff overlooking the beach and pristine corals of the South China Sea. It is scheduled to open at the end of 2015.

In addition to the innovative contemporary design of the nine-storey central building, the 180-room resort will feature 52 individual cliff and hill villas, a spa, a 600 sqm (6,458 sq ft) ballroom, boardrooms, a large variety of restaurants, cafés and bars, extensive pools and tropical gardens, boat jetty, gym and even a wedding studio and wind power station.

The Mövenpick Hotel Makati, meanwhile, is set to open in 2016 and is the third property to be operated by the Swiss company in the Philippines after the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Cebu and a stunning new fusion of eco-adventure and lifestyle on the exclusive Huma Island, Palawan.

Based in the striking Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Tower, to be built in the heart of Makati City in fashionable Picar Place, the new hotel will feature 304 rooms and suites as well as 250 residences.

In addition to a 300-seat all-day dining restaurant, the hotel will also enjoy Chinese and Japanese outlets, a panoramic rooftop venue and a bar with entertainment lounge. A striking 1,200 sqm (12,916 sq ft) ballroom and a variety of multi-function rooms will undoubtedly make the hotel a centre of attention for major events.

"The announcement of these two significant management contracts comes at an exciting time for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts." said Andreas Mattmüller.

This year the company will open the doors to two of its newest hotels; the recently renovated 286- room Mövenpick Suriwongse Hotel Chiang Mai in the centre of the city’s legendary night bazaar and a Mövenpick property in Huma Island, a private island in the stunning Philippine archipelago of Palawan.

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Reduces Green House Gases and Water Use in Middle East

All Mövenpick hotels in the Middle East have achieved Green Globe certification.

Dubai (UAE) 13 June, 2012: Green Globe Certification and Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts today announce major reductions of greenhouse gases (GHG) and significant water savings by all Mövenpick properties across the Middle East.

After the first year of Green Globe certification of hotels in UAE, Qatar, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain, analysis of energy and water consumption reveals the reduction of 11,765 tons of CO2e and savings of 129,346 m3 of potable water in the last 12 months.

Green Globe Certification CEO Mr. Guido Bauer said, "This is absolute proof that certification by Green Globe leads to great outcomes for the environment as well as utility savings for hotels and resorts."

"These reductions are equivalent to saving one Olympic pool of water per week, each week for a year. The GHG saved by Mövenpick hotels is the same as the emissions of five non-stop round-trip flights from Dubai to London."

Green Globe Certification has been contracted by Mövenpick to certify all their hotels and resorts worldwide. The certification process covers all sustainability criteria including the key environmental indicators of energy and water.

Green Globe Certification's preferred partner in the Middle East, Farnek Avireal provides third party verification of the sustainability achievements of Green Globe members including Mövenpick properties. Avireal's online environmental monitoring system Hotel Optimizer has tracked the improved performance of the hotels throughout this first year of certification.

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, Vice President of Operations in the Middle East and India, Mr. Gerard Hotelier said, "The energy savings we have achieved in the last 12 months are equal to powering a 200-room hotel for one and half years".

"The total savings on utilities in this period are AED 2.5 million which is almost USD$700,000 and this represents a 4% savings in water and electricity costs, while at the same time we have seen a 8.3% increase in occupancy across the properties".

Green Globe Certification and its preferred partner Farnek Avireal will continue to monitor the reduction of environmental impacts across the Mövenpick properties in the Middle East along with all Green Globe members in this region.

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts turns the global switch.

Company first as all hotels sign up to green initiative.

All 69 Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts globally will be turning off their exterior lights during Earth Hour on March 26.

Some properties have supported the environmental initiative in recent years, in line with the company's Global Sustainability Programme, but this is the first time that the entire portfolio is participating.

Jean Gabriel Pérès, President and CEO Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, said: "We are delighted that all our hotels and resorts will be participating in Earth Hour this year and it clearly demonstrates the importance with which we view environmental matters."

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is aiming for 20 per cent of its hotels, resorts and cruises to be Green Globe Certified by the end of this year and all properties stamped with Green Globe credentials within two years. The strategy is part of a company-wide programme to establish a common and global approach to environmental, employer and social sustainability.

Earth Hour started in Sydney in 2007, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change.

Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome's Colosseum, all stood in darkness in support of the cause.

Hotels look to add value, customised experiences and digital services

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts identifies the 'big three' likely to drive the industry in 2011.

Making the travel experience more customised, interactive and with value-added benefits for guests are likely to be the big three trends influencing the hotel industry within the Middle East in 2011, according to Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.

Andreas Mattmüller, Chief Operating Officer for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, Middle East & Asia said the hotel industry will face growing challenges to provide customised experiences and face tighter lead times for bookings as available airline capacity means travellers can look for last-minute offers.

He notes more travellers are taking short haul trips at the expense of long-haul destinations – although in bound business from India and Asia will continue to grow significantly. "The Asian market will be a prominent and major player in the tourism sector in 2011, and will even increase and solidify on 2012 and beyond," he said.

Personalised services and added value were also identified as key factors as price-conscious travellers continue to look for opportunities.

"Guest service customization will continue to be critical," said Toufic Tamim, Vice President Sales & Marketing Middle East. "We must move from a hotel-centric to a guest-centric approach. Guests will expect their stay to be personalised around a set of choices on offer in order to tailor their visit to their own preferences. Guests are demanding much more from their travels and looking for one-of-a-kind, enriching experiences."

Roger MacFarlaine, Vice President IT, Middle East & Asia, added that the main trend is towards hotel-specific mobile applications, exploring how hand-held devices can transform the guest experience – and again, it's all set to get personal.

"Since travellers look for immediacy and efficiency in hotel services the mobile apps, apart from making hotel reservations, are going to cater for a more personalised approach with choices of food and beverage and room amenities that guests can select prior to their arrival and during their stay," he said. "Hotels will increasingly look to new technologies to drastically increase efficiency, personalise the customer experience and improve service."

Peter Drescher, Vice President Food and Beverage, Middle East and Asia, believes there is a growing need and desire for guests to know more about the origins and quality of their food. "We will be working on an organic option for all our hotels throughout the Middle East & Asia, giving environmentally concerned guest the opportunity to get naturally grown and produced foods."

The omens appear more favourable this year for those working at the front end of the industry, reckons Craig Cochrane- Vice President Human Resources, Middle East & Asia. "We're seeing job security starting to return, salary freezes being lifted, as well as delayed hotels opening."
