The city itself is eye-opening, but once you step outside, that’s when things get really interesting. Think heading up to the Chouf Mountains to wander old Druze villages like Deir al Qamar or to explore cedar groves with a guide who knows their way around the history and maybe a secret picnic spot.

And you can’t ignore the coast. A two-day trip that takes you from Beirut down to Byblos and then Batroun lets you sample ancient ruins, seaside charms, and some of the best fresh seafood , just ask the folks at the small harbor cafes if they’ve got today’s catch. Early spring or fall are ideal for avoiding the summer heat and crowds.

One tip from me: book your trips through someone who’s local or connected,tour operators based in Beirut often include stops off the usual paths, like private tastings of Lebanese wines near Zahle or a glimpse into olive pressing in small family-run farms around the Bekaa. Skip giant tour groups if you want a real feel for the region. Just don’t forget your walking shoes and maybe a jacket , nights in the mountains can get chilly!
