If you’re looking to step away from the city’s chaos for a few hours, Beirut has some surprisingly lush spots and nature tours worth your time. The city itself might seem all concrete and traffic, but just a short drive out, you’ll find areas like Horsh Beirut, a green park tucked inside the city where locals jog, picnic, and watch birds quietly going about their business.

For the more adventurous, heading northeast towards the Chouf Mountains brings you closer to wild pine forests and chances to spot some local wildlife, including Lebanese squirrels and a variety of migratory birds, especially during spring and fall. I’ve taken a few guided hikes that point out interesting flora like the rare Lebanese cedar saplings. Trust me, there’s something very soothing about the scent of those pines mixed with the mountain breeze.

Don’t miss Beirut’s coastal nature if you’re into something more laid back. There’s a calmer side near Raouche with its famous rocks where you can kayak and sometimes see dolphins farther out. Fun fact, locals still gather on weekends for spontaneous fishing near Zaitunay Bay, it’s a nice way to feel part of the community.
